Tokyo Police Club play Nashville tonight at Exit/In. This bouncy post-punk foursome out of Newmarket, Ontario, played here once already, last year at Mercy Lounge. Their drummer was sick, so members of Cold War Kids and Delta Spirit (yeah, that band name sounds like an airline) joined the Club on stage for a big freeform drum circle. It wasn't cool in actuality, but it was cool that they did what they could to keep the show going. Confusing, I know!
But having seen them three times with their real drummer, I can testify that these Canadians are as tight live as they are friendly.
Anyway, TPC have a new album out, Elephant Shell, and it's a honey—full of gang vox, handclaps, rubbery basslines and snappy beats.
