Submissions are officially open for Next Big Nashville 2008, which takes place Sept. 10 - 14 this year. Last year, throngs of stellar acts took stages all over the city and turned out some of the best A&R showcase-core performances we'd seen.
This year, NBN is not only opening up the festival to applicants from a wider radius around Nashville, but they're also trying to be more inclusive, adding more all-ages shows and more genres, from hardcore to hip-hop and R&B.
There's also a more formal submission process: NBN 2008 accepts submissions through Sonicbids. Go here.
You've got til June 5 to submit.
More deets after the jump.
Regional and Other Submissions:
This year for the first time, NBN will open up the submission process to regional bands and will spotlight artists who might not live in Tennessee but are tied to the area through their personal history (the artist was born or grew up there), their business connections (their management, booking, publishing etc. is based there) or their musical endeavors (their album was mixed in Nashville, they have songs co-written with Nashville songwriters etc.). The expanded region for 2008 submissions includes Louisville, KY, Knoxville, TN, Chattanooga, TN, Athens, GA, Oxford, MS, Memphis, TN, Lexington, KY, Asheville, NC, Birmingham, AL Tuscaloosa, AL, St. Louis, MO, Little Rock, AR, Indianapolis, IN, Cincinnati, OH, Bloomington, IN and/or bands within a 350 mile radius of Nashville.
All genres accepted. Although we will be steering away from most CCM and commercial country artists because they have are obviously well taken care of by other Nashville events. There will still be a commercial country element although it will lean towards artists such as Jedd Hughes, Lady Antebellum, etc. who are active participants in the Nashville live music scene. We will also be respectful of the Americana Music Conference which is set to take place the following week following NBN 2008 and try to not duplicate many of their bookings. There will be all ages shows this year and more openings for hardcore acts. Also the spate of hip hop and R&B shows will also be increased.
Submission Deadline June 5, 2008. Status Notification by July 11, 2008.
