A devil said:
"So you want to be a pop star
you gotta read my books
come to my seminar
and kiss my pinky ring...."
Do you want a major label deal? Well, do you? Next Thursday, 21st, get thee to Omni Sound Studios for this event:
Musicians Recording Singles to Enter First Tracks Search and Get Chance to Win Major Label Recording Contract. (Also known to industry insiders as MRStEFTSaGCtWMLRC.)
If you're thinking of entering this contest, just keep this in mind: I'm already working on a song that is basically a fusion of the "timeless hooks" of The Beatles, the "funky rock stylings" of Mountain, the "raw energy" of The Decemberists, the "intensity" of Eddie Rabbit and the "lyrical dance-fueled urban prowess" of Soulja Boy. Contest details after the jump. If you're not intimidated, kid.
On February 21, 2008, musicians of every genre are invited to Omni Sound Studios, the renowned studio that has seen the likes of Jewel, Faith Hill, Alan Jackson and Brooks & Dunn, to record a single that will then be uploaded to Gather.com and will automatically enter them into First Tracks: The Search for America’s Best Musical Talent. The best talent, selected later this spring[,] will win a label deal with Decca Label Group, home to Marc Cohn, Boyz II Men, Paula Cole and MeShell Ndegeocello.
Artists will also get tips from industry experts on various aspects of becoming a star such as how to best record, optimize music online and break into the music industry through talent competitions. Brian Mansfield, a music reporter for USA Today who helped Nashville Star judge, Anastasia Brown, write a book about music talent competitions, will be on hand to offer guidance to budding musicians. Instruments available at the studio include: Yamaha C7 Acoustic Piano, Hammond B3 Organ, Wurlitzer Electric piano and a complete drum kit. Musicians are responsible for any other instruments necessary for their recording. Please prepare an acoustic arrangement of your song.
Omni Sound Studios is located at 1806 Division Street in Nashville.
