Red Meat and Boobies

Nashville's unlistenable "active rock" station 102.9 the Buzz has replaced the crappy syndicated morning talk show "Bob and Tom" with a different crappy syndicated morning talk show from Michigan called "Free Beer and Hot Wings."

From the press release:
"Securing Free Beer & Hot Wings is a classic case of turning a challenge into an opportunity. We have enjoyed our nine-year relationship with Bob and Tom and we tried to keep the show on our station. However, after Clear Channel and Cumulus made the corporate deal to put the show on a Cumulus station, we searched for and found a new program that is funny, spontaneous and even more relevant to our audience," Walters said.

Once again the Cromwell Group knows what's relevant for Nashville, and serves another one up for our community!

102.9 The Buzz Brings Free Beer & Hot Wings to Middle Tennessee
Nashville's Mainstream Rock Station Launches
New Morning Show Wednesday, November 22

NASHVILLE, TENN. (November 21, 2006)—Morning drive radio listeners in Middle Tennessee will now get Free Beer & Hot Wings every weekday.

Nashville's mainstream rock radio station, 102.9 The Buzz, today announced that the Bob & Tom Show will be replaced by a new program, Free Beer & Hot Wings on Wednesday, November 22. The program will air Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. until 10 a.m.

"When we learned that the Clear Channel-owned company that syndicates Bob & Tom was moving the show elsewhere, we researched virtually every morning show in America. We found Free Beer & Hot Wings and we think they're the best," said Bud Walters, president of The Cromwell Radio Group, Inc. and owner of WBUZ-FM, 102.9 The Buzz.

Walters noted that Free Beer & Hot Wings enjoys substantially higher audience ratings where they compete with Bob and Tom. "In fact, Free Beer & Hot Wings has three times more listeners than Bob & Tom." According to the latest Arbitron rankings, Free Beer & Hot Wings is the top-rated morning show in Grand Rapids with a 24.8 share of adults age 18-34. During the same period in that market, the Bob and Tom show has a 5.2 share of those listeners. Among male listeners, the gap is even wider with Free Beer & Hot Wings getting a 32 share, compared to a 6.8 share for Bob and Tom. With adults 25-54, Free Beer and Hot Wings' share of 9.7 is again ahead of Bob and Tom.

Free Beer & Hot Wings is a syndicated morning show now airing on stations in Michigan, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire and Maine. Program hosts Free Beer (Gregg Daniels) and Hot Wings (Chris Michels) are joined by Eric Zane in a humorous and sometimes sarcastic discussion of pop culture and current events. The show also includes special daily segments, listener and celebrity interviews and a range of spontaneous features.

Walters sees history repeating itself in the programming changes. "When we signed Bob and Tom nine years ago, they were only on15 stations. We became their only station in a major market outside their home base. Just as we were the first major market station to recognize the appeal of Bob & Tom back then, we have now found a new show that will amuse, entertain, and rock our listeners. It's a show we can help to grow nationally as we did Bob and Tom."

Beth Murphy, Nashville Market Manager for The BUZZ 102.9 and sister station WVNS, V-102.5, said "Free Beer and Hot Wings is actually a much better fit for our audience and our ‘Everything That Rocks format than Bob and Tom. The show will keep our listeners asking, ‘What will these guys do next?'"

The station will celebrate Free Beer and Hot Wings with a Guinness Free Beer & Hot Wings listener party, Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium, 111 10th Avenue South, behind the Union Station Hotel. Guests will be treated to free hot wings and Guinness merchandise. Admission is free, and the public is invited.

Dagwood, the 102.9 personality who has hosted the local segments of the Bob and Tom show since 1999 will host Free Beer and Hot Wings. "I spent several days with the Free Beer & Hot Wings crew in their studio and was extremely impressed. I came away feeling like we'd been friends for a long time. These guys are loving the chance to be on in Nashville, and I'm convinced Nashville will love them," Dagwood said. For more information about Free Beer & Hot Wings, visit www.freebeerandhotwings.com.
