There's a pretty interesting link on Coolfer's page to a story on CNN.com about what indie really means anymore. It's certainly nothing new—the notion that once indie or "alternative" hit the mainstream, it ceased to be counterculture. What I like is that somebody in the article says "I know it when I see it," as a defense against defining the concept of indie in today's terms, which echoes the old pornography debate by Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart. Is that how elusive indie has become?
