This past weekend, in Boulder, CO, I picked up the the Colorado Daily's "Welcome Back: You Need to Know" edition aimed at CU students. I was flipping through and, all of a sudden, there was Jemina Pearl in all her punk rock glory. The article was actually a reprint of a Washington Post feature on Be Your Own Pet. The story details how the Nashville youngsters "shun the conventional path to fame," notably by declining a Warped Tour invitation. The writer's obvious admiration for that choice made it impossible not to think of our local arachnids, slogging across the nation with bands that guitarist Jonas Stein calls "overdone and pretentious and not real."
