Yoga Class and Feng Shui Meditation w/Liz Workman

When: Tue., Jan. 1, 12-2 p.m. 2013
Price: $25
I spent most of my early 20s avoiding both yoga and New Year’s resolutions, preferring instead to do as much as possible to appear as though I was doing as little as possible. (Did it pay off? Not unless you count the impressive variety of laziness-induced bed-heads I managed to pull off for the better part of a decade.) Luckily, I’ve since come around to see the benefits of exercising for fun, and having yearly goals seems much more reasonable now that I’m past the age where every year seems like its own era. (1999-me was light-years away from 2000-me, for example.) That’s why I’ve made this yoga and meditation class with Liz Workman my New Year’s Day tradition for the past couple of years. Workman is a great teacher — she taught high school to inner-city kids in New York before moving to Nashville — and her practice is strenuous enough to balance out the crunchy, touchy-feely quality of Feng Shui meditation (unless you’re into that kind of thing, which I totally am). The class has the introspective feeling of a mindfulness session, where you ground yourself physically before starting to really analyze what you want for yourself in the coming year. If that sort of thing sounds like a good way to spend the early afternoon after a late night out, you’re going to love this class.
