There are two very simple ways to curry my favor: Name yourselves after the alien species from Predator, and make such unflinchingly heavy music that the entire country has to stop and take notice. I’m proud to say that Yautja has filled both requirements. I was shocked as shit — even though I shouldn’t have been — when my newsfeed was flooded with chatter about a metal band from Nashville, with reliable sources like Brooklyn Vegan, Pitchfork and Invisible Oranges wigging out over the Music City-bred brutality of Yautja’s debut Songs of Descent. And when you factor in every friend and acquaintance reposting the previously posted, uh, posts, there almost wasn’t any room left on the Internet for our cat pictures and doge memes — which is about as brutal as it gets. Ramming Speed, Cove and Act of Impalement also perform.
