Works by Barry Buxkamper and Brad Durham at Cumberland Gallery

Opposites Attract

Opposites Attract
The latest show at Cumberland features two gallery favorites whose styles couldn't be more different. Brad Durham’s evocative landscapes are typically more concerned with light than with the details of his vistas. In fact, his best paintings are practically reduced to abstract elements, seemingly leaving only the mood of a place intact. Barry Buxkamper’s canvases read like a visual scavenger hunt: a symbolic language that confides as much as it confounds. While fans of his work on canvas will find much to like in this show, the real highlight is a collection of watercolors that humorously explore the not-always-so-funny intersections of vanity and aging.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Oct. 17. Continues through Nov. 14, 2009
