Nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Book for a Musical and Best Original Score, this rarely produced, atypically constructed opus is based on Chicago journalist Studs Terkel's 1974 best-seller, which explored the day-to-day routines and heartfelt feelings of a wide cross-section of American workers, from parking-lot attendants and corporate executives to schoolteachers, housewives, firefighters, janitors and others. The music and lyrics are the work of a team of eight writers headed up by Stephen Schwartz and James Taylor. Schwartz, along with Nina Faso, adapted the book. Boiler Room Theatre's new production is under the direction of Jamey Green, with a cast featuring Mary Bea Johnson, Laura Thomas, Scott Stewart, Will Sevier, Lauri Bright, Devin Clevenger and Christina Candilora.
