As at any publication worth its salt, the first order of business each Monday in the Scene editorial offices is an in-depth discussion of the previous night's Mad Men episode. Editor Jim Ridley regales us with his best Lane Pryce impersonation while we sit around drinking vodka and smoking cigarettes, taking bets on whether Peggy and Don will hook up. Instead of "Ginger or Mary Ann?" we play "Betty or Joan?" and "Don or Roger?" It's usually Tuesday afternoon before we actually get down to work.
So naturally our ears perked up when we heard that Nashville actress Keri Pisapia has entered a contest to get a walk-on role on Mad Men. A veteran of Tennessee Women's Theater Project and Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theatre — as well as a featured voice in The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie — Pisapia says that getting to be on Mad Men, even for just an episode, would be a dream come true. "Anytime I can take myself out of contemporary times and put myself in another era is thrilling for me," she says.
But Pisapia needs your help: Semifinalists are determined by online voting, with the top 10 women and top 10 men moving on to the final selection process. The winners will then be picked by series creator and executive producer Matthew Weiner. As of this writing, Pisapia is in the top 10 percent of the nearly 5,000 entrants, but still needs thousands more votes to make the semifinals, so get busy, folks. The voting deadline is 4 p.m. (CST) Friday, Sept. 17. One look at the entry photo featuring the vivacious brunette (consider that politically incorrect description our attempt to be period-correct) has us convinced that if she can make it to the finals, she's a strong contender. If all goes well, she could be getting hit on by a pathetically drunk Don Draper before you can say, "Pond's Cold Cream." Go to madmencastingcall.amctv.com/browse/detail/EYRP9D to vote.
