I must confess a certain fondness for the word “wicked.” Maybe it was my college years spent in New England. Or perhaps my late, beloved cousin Kenny, born and raised in the “wicked” capital of the world, Pawtucket, R.I. (Kenny once told me he was “wicked fuckin’ wasted and wicked fuckin’ rockin’ out to the wicked new Molly Hatchet record.” It was 1979, but you don’t forget poetry like that.) It seems my peculiar semantic fetish has predisposed me to have a soft spot for the Wicked Amazing Super Party. The brainchild of Kevin Kaz and his crew at multimedia creative agency Funky Umbrella (who you’ve probably seen filming live rock shows around town over the past couple years), WASP 2012 features banjo whiz Ryan Cavanaugh and his band No Mans Land, purveyors of “waterbed rock ’n’ roll” the Captain Midnight Band, Murfreesboro funk ambassadors Sky Hi, and sibling comedy team The Jones Brothers. As my cousin Kenny would have said, wicked fuckin’ awesome.
