No sooner has
Meet Me in St. Louis closed than the busy folks at Larry Keeton Theatre have moved into the holidays in a big way, with yet another stage adaptation of a classic film. Michael Curtiz’ 1954 seasonal favorite starred Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen and wedded a sentimental scenario to great Irving Berlin songs. It’s schmaltzy stuff, all right, but even when it reaches campiness it’s fun. Plus the tale of a couple of ex-G.I. song-and-dance men chasing the girls of their dreams, and then doing something nice for their former Army commander, has family friendliness written all over it. The score features well-known standards such as “Blue Skies, “I Love a Piano, “How Deep Is the Ocean and the irresistible title number. Tim Larson directs.
