When a Problem Comes Along…

With the release of Superdrag’s comeback disc Industry Giants just a month away, a couple of ‘Drag members are tantalizing the sonic taste buds with their respective projects. Featuring Superdrag singer/bassist Tom Pappas and singer/guitarist Eric Otto (The Scenesters), Whip make glammy garage pop, blending dirty guitar strut with punchy rhythmic swivel for a sound chunky enough to be manufactured by the Mars family. They’re celebrating the release of their debut full-length Defibrillator. Headlining is Superdrag frontman John Davis, supporting his second album Arigato. It’s not as lush or religious as his 2005 self-titled debut, assaying instead a hard-charging, hook-lined profile like Foo Fighters in thrall to Superchunk. It’s catchy, high-energy stuff that really whets the appetite for new Superdrag material.
