Consisting of former members of the Panic Buttons and Alabama Jihad, Thomas Function pull off garage punk revivalism because they've done their homework. The Huntsville quartet understands that the garage part of their description doesn't mean there can't be a bit of polish. Shifting from soul to R&B to powerpop, Thomas Function craft songs that exploit the points where those genres intersect. Vancouver-based pop-punkers Vancougar open along with locals The Outlaw Lovers, whose upcoming LP Hard to Ignore is the grittier, bar band compliment to Thomas Function. Six Gun Lullaby and the Trampskirts round out a solidly packed Wednesday night.
