Finance director David Manning and others are said to be looking seriously at what it would take to get rid of the junk metal lot (the old Steiner-Liff business) on the East Bank. The activity is considered “advance planning” as enthusiasm builds for redevelopment across the river. Can’t you feel it? ♦ In the most recent Vanity Fair: A long take on Palm Beach’s socialites, with locals Alyne Massey, described as a “Kentucky Fried Chicken widow,” and Jane Dudley receiving prominent play. Massey, in particular, who once covered society for the Nashville Banner, is the subject of a full-page photograph. ♦ Meanwhile, the anti-gay forces in Metro Council are said to be working feverishly to defeat the appointment of former Metro Council member Eileen Beehan to Metro’s Traffic and Parking Commission. Beehan, you may recall, co-sponsored a council resolution last year that would have provided employment and housing protection to gays and lesbians. The culture wars continue....
