We Are Hex w/Watcher

When: Sat., July 26, 7 p.m. 2014
I like the summer sunshine as much as the next guy, but I’m about done with Sheryl Crow telling me to lighten up. I need a few thrills and chills with the possibility of hooded figures muttering incantations in a candlelit room, and Indianapolis coed rock outfit We Are Hex have exactly what I’m looking for. Their tunes have an ominous weight, but they’re light on their feet, rattling and snarling with punkish intensity. A spin of their 2013 Jon Spencer-helmed, not-exactly-safe-for-work 7-inch “Lewd Nudie Animals” / “Real Waco Lot Lizard” will give you a good idea of what to expect. Dinosaur Jr. and Shellac are solid RIYL touchstones for locally based trio Watcher, another outlet for itinerant troubadour Reid Magette and friends, but their taut and melodic brand of post-hardcore shout-along is their own.
