Wanda Jackson

When: Sat., July 28, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $27.50-$47.50
Call her Queen of Rockabilly, call her Queen of Rock — she gets called both, deserves both. Wanda Jackson’s decades-long, trailblazing, shoulder-baring résumé needs no recounting here, but some updating might be useful. The next album for the 75-year-old spitfire whom Bob Dylan once called a “hurricane in lipstick,” due out in October, will be her 31st. It’s called Unfinished Business, naturally. And while Jackson and Music City didn’t exactly hit it off early in her career, that’s all lava under the volcano now. Business was produced by the Nashville-bred Justin Townes Earle, while more-than-capable locals Heath Haynes and the High-Dollars, who serve as Jackson’s band for shows east of the Mississippi, will provide the grid for Jackson’s still-electric delivery. If you’re not attending the Southern Girls Rock and Roll Camp, where Jackson is playing a private show on Friday, this is your chance to see the very definition of rock royalty up close.
