Even though we music critics are sort of contractually obligated to abandon any previously underground artist that we've championed as soon people with real jobs start to notice them, we do occasionally love it when our obscuro-idols make it in the pop realm. Take Wale for example — we've been on board 100 percent as he's made the transformation from mixtape wunderkind to major label mover and shaker. His latest single “That Way,” featuring Jeremih and Rick Ross, is a slow and smooth samba-swerve made for late-night listening with the lights turned low. Wale is the kind of dude who can master pretty much every style you put in front of him, and a top-40 sound — we can't believe we're saying this — suits him well. The Washington, D.C., native brings his, uh, ambitiously titled Ambition tour in support of the unsurprisingly titled Ambition album — the dude always has been, uh, what's the word … enterprising — to Limelight this weekend.
