Thankfully, a smaller theater company like Actors Bridge Ensemble continues to fulfill a vital function in bringing to Music City premieres of promising plays that otherwise simply might never be mounted locally. Nicholas Wright’s fictional account of Vincent Van Gogh’s time in England in the 1870s depicts a lively young man struggling to find his way and to walk the artist's path. Love and disappointment color the burgeoning painter’s personal canvas. The play was the winner of the 2003 Olivier Award for Best New Play (Great Britain’s version of the Tony) and was nominated for the 2003 Tony Award for Best Play. ABE artistic director Bill Feehely directs a cast that includes Brent Maddox, Kim Bretton, Jessika Malone, Mitch Massaro and Colleen Allen.
