Unwed Sailor w/Unicorn Hard-on and Lazer Slut, Square People & The Ascent of Everest

When: Thu., Feb. 17, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $6
This day and age, the only experiments taking place in “experimental” rock are those that deal with the ability to sell records. Musical scientists like Talk Talk, Slint and Tortoise sucked all the “hype” out of hypothetical rock, answering all the questions any future would-be pioneers would need to ask, and leaving most modern-day Dadaists doomed to dabble in variations with the same outcomes their influences taught them to expect. Unwed Sailor’s bassist and founder Johnathon Ford has never claimed to break any particular ground, trotting the globe on what is basically a 10-year tour with a revolving-door lineup featuring members of Fleet Foxes, The Casket Lottery and Pedro the Lion. Running the post-rock gamut from synth-colored instro-rock to spacey, ambient drones, Ford and his gang of (pre-mainstream) Emo Era veterans serve as the Bill Nye of science rock, dropping melodic Mentos into a sonic soda bottle and exploding with an outcome that will always please at least a few folks.
