Easily the edgiest and most irreverent show Cumberland Gallery has hosted this year, Unique Visions pulls out the stops for Artober, presenting a fun, goofy, intense and slightly cracked display of painting, animation and photography. One of my favorites is Andrea Heimer’s painting “Mountain Lions” — it looks like something a little kid would paint in art therapy trying to work through the grief of what happened on a fateful afternoon when the titular felines suddenly showed up for supper at the school playground. The exhibit also features work by Julie Blackmon, Craig Cully, Mark Hosford, Marcus Kenney, Will Stone and Fred Stonehouse. On Thursday, Oct. 24, the art on the wall will be accompanied by a Sideshow Fringe performance that will find the students in the Actors Bridge immersion program creating domestic tableaux around the various works in the exhibit, bringing them to life. I wonder who will get to play the mountain lions?
