Two: The Story of Roman and Nyro

When: Tue., May 13, 7 p.m. 2014
As the hit-maker behind blockbuster radio staples like “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “Dude Looks Like a Lady” and “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” songwriter/producer Desmond Child — who’s called Nashville home since 1991— is a legendary star-maker behind the curtain. But Child’s life outside the studio offers just as moving a story as any sentiment in the endless string of power ballads among his credits. Two: The Story of Roman and Nyro chronicles the openly gay songwriter/producer and his longtime partner Curtis Shaw Child’s emotional 12-year journey forging the modern American family, lovingly raising their precocious twin sons Nyro and Roman in wholesome, suburban harmony in the heart of “Don’t Say Gay” Tennessee. The directorial debut from Heather Winters (already an Academy Award-nominated two-time Sundance winner for her executive production and production work on Super Size Me and Anywhere, USA), the film took home top awards at the 2013 Nashville and Arpa film festivals as well as the 2014 Palm Springs Film Festival. Tonight’s screening — and the Child friends and family Q&A to follow — doubles as a benefit for Jewish Family Services, PFLAG and Abintra Montessori School. ADAM GOLD
