Asheville, N.C., is best known to most in these parts as a hippie-college-mountain town about five hours east that consistently sends over the most oddly eclectic touring bands you’re likely to see around here. Beat-makers and fraternal twins Sherwyn and Kendrick Nicholls keep it Asheville-real with meticulous sampling, sleazy synths, broken beats and, of course, a free-flow jam to create the kind of party music that unites all college student stereotypes and invites the sun to rise far too early. Armed with only a pair of laptops and a live drummer, the brothers Fresh have become festival faves, gracing hot spots like Moogfest and SXSW in the midst of relentless touring. Their latest podcast mix,
What Computer?, is a free download courtesy of Elm & Oak Records, which is co-run by formerly local visual artist and ex-Ghostfinger DJ Berk Visual.
