All right, show of hands: Who here listens to British, neo-psychedelic ’80s space-rock outfit Spacemen 3? They disbanded in 1991, with band co-leader Jason Pierce going on to release loads of material with his outfit Spiritualized. But in the wake of their distorted, droning, trance-inducing walls of guitar noise, Spacemen 3 left behind them scores of bands that could mostly be called shoegaze, or neo-psychedelia, or post-punk. Anyway, it’s safe to say that local duo Ttotals has probably spent a good deal of time trancing out to Spacemen 3, as their brand-new record, Silver on Black, is a dense slab of ethereal, hypnotic guitar rock very much in the tradition of Spacemen 3’s dense, ethereal, hypnotic guitar rock. Recorded and mixed at Zero Art Studio by fellow local Tate Eskew, Silver on Black features soaring, eerie vocals and background noise grounded with heavy, grungy guitar sounds. Look for them to shake the bricks of Brick Factory loose this evening, with Louisville’s Gangly Youth and locals Dirty Dreams also playing.
