Topdog/Underdog at Amun Ra Theatre

Originally scheduled for a highly anticipated summer '09 production at Amun Ra Theatre--starring actor Jeff Carr and former football great Eddie George--Suzan-Lori Parks' infamous, darkly comic fable of two struggling, psychologically distraught brothers will instead receive its full production by the company in 2010. George and Carr's media and moviemaking obligations forced the postponement of what certainly promises to be an intriguing Nashville theatrical event. In the meantime, for one night only, theatergoers can catch the duo in a staged reading of the play at the intimate ART Playhouse, which seats about 50. It's a pricy ticket ($50), but it may very well be worth the opportunity to grab a preview look at these two presence-rich performers working Parks' challenging text--especially George, who, since leaving the NFL following the 2004 season, has been honing his skills as broadcaster and thespian. There's a post-show reception and talk-back with the actors.
