It's no secret that we're big fans of the ol' psychedelic rock sound. It's also no secret that we're enamored with the post-hardcore/pre-mall-core era in American underground music. So when we heard that Slow Bull — the latest project from Moss Icon and Universal Order of Armeggedon co-founder Tonie Joy — was coming to town, we basically lost our ever-lovin' minds. And when we found out he was touring with former members of Pinback, Moonshine, Vincent Black Shadow and Yukon … well, let's just say it's going to take a good long while to get all of that gray matter off of our office wall. Veering between heady and heavy, visceral and vicious, Slow Bull's current incarnation as a live outfit is the end result of almost a decade of experimentation and improvisation, and the resulting songs embody a freedom and mastery that many bands who venture into psyche territory are sorely lacking. The Pilgrim, Frosty and Haldol also appear.
