Tom Carr: Here and There

When: March 20-June 14 2014
Spanish artist Tom Carr makes video works like “Arrival/Departure,” a film that depicts the silhouettes of travelers on an escalator entering into and exiting out of a circular frame of plain white light. But the press release for Here and There, Carr’s exhibit at Belmont’s Leu Gallery, is as intriguing as it is scant, promising simply “a selection of video and light-projection works.” The Barcelona-based artist has also used projected light to redefine architectural spaces, borrowing stripes and dot patterns with an almost Pop Art sensibility. Carr is the Belmont arts department’s visiting artist and master class instructor for the spring semester, and tonight’s gallery talk is a great opportunity to find out more about this internationally recognized artist’s practice and ideas.
