Three Earle-y Nights

The name might suggest a weathered, seen-it-all country bluesman, rather than the 27-year-old songwriter Earle really is. But he comes by it honestly: His father is Steve Earle, and he’s named for family friend Townes van Zandt. And his music bears it out: The carefully written material combines balladry, Texas swing and Americana, accompanied by fiddle, steel guitar and piano. Earle’s first album, The Good Life, was recorded at local House of David Studios (and co-produced by Nashville’s own Steve Poulton). Since its release last year, he’s been nominated for an Americana Music Association award and played at South by Southwest and the Grand Ole Opry. His series of Basement shows celebrates his latest record, Midnight at the Movies, already earning comparisons to Lightnin’ Hopkins, Jimmy Reed and Woody Guthrie.
