• Opening this week: the smash French romantic comedy Heartbreaker, with Romain Duris and Vanessa Paradis (at The Belcourt); the Clint Eastwood supernatural drama Hereafter (what is it with death this week at the movies?), with Matt Damon; more surveillance-cam thrills from Paranormal Activity 2; and the reality-show musical drama Rising Stars.
• This week only, closing The Belcourt's "Doctober" series: Elijah Drenner's rollicking American Grindhouse (Oct. 25-27), which enlists everyone from Herschell Gordon Lewis and Joe Dante to Fred "The Hammer" Williamson and Larry Cohen to survey the glorious depths of American exploitation cinema. Also showing, one night only: the district-rigging doc Gerrymandering (7 p.m. Oct. 25), which Tennesseans this year should find rather interesting. At Green Hills: The Metropolitan Opera's staging of Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov, broadcast live in HD at 11 a.m. Saturday.
• Coming soon: The Belcourt's Charlie Chaplin retrospective; Olivier Assayas' terrorist docudrama Carlos; Tyler Perry's For Colored Girls; The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.
