Once, when asked if his Tuff Gong record label was one of the fruits of Babylon, an annoyed Bob Marley deftly replied through a haze of ganja smoke, There are no fruits of Babylon! While we'd never disagree with the prophet's lung-full logic, every society must come to terms with the products of its culture, both good and bad. This latest show at the Scaritt Bennett Center's Gallery F brings sculpture, installation, video, collage and painting to bear on issues of identity, belonging and gender within the context of societal expectations and the idea of one's true self. From the comedic to the contemplative, the artists in this group show create an overall effect in their separate, unique efforts. Artists include Patricia Earnhardt, Libby Rowe, Sara Estes, Daniel Lai, James Darr and Matt Christy.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 16. Continues through Jan. 1, 2009
