Maybe if The Winter Sounds spent more time playing in Nashville instead of trotting across the rest of the U.S., they would get a little more local love and wouldn’t have to settle for press clips from the Onion AV Club. They could be playing any number of 8 Off 8ths every year instead of recording Daytrotter Sessions. But to each his own. The Winter Sounds instead opt for national attention, churning out a well-coalesced mixtape of indie rock’s finer moments from the past 10 years, resulting in a familiarly anthemic wall of guitars, electronics, strings and melancholy melodies that all add up to a no-brainer for critical acclaim. Still, you’re never gonna get your spurs in this town till you’ve paid a due or two slummin’ it in a local dive. The Winter Sounds do just that tonight at The 5 Spot, and are aptly named for the weather you’re bound to endure on the way there.
