The Weeks w/Robert Ellis

When: Sat., May 10, 8:30 p.m. 2014
Price: $15-$17
Despite the fact that Robert Ellis’ Light From The Chemical Plant marks his third full-length release, the easy melodies and seamless storytelling in each track make the record a great primer for those new to Ellis’ sound. The Texas-born singer-songwriter crafts songs with a distinctly country vibe, but his spontaneous onstage antics — from stage-diving to rowdy full-band renditions of his album tracks — keeps any performance from lapsing into familiar territory. That’s what makes a co-bill with long-haired rockers The Weeks so fitting: The Mississippi boys join Ellis in infusing traditional songwriting conventions with distinctly modern references, ushering in a fresh sound with 2013’s Dear Bo Jackson that will make even the most reverent Southern rock enthusiasts want to get up and dance.
