For those Nashvillians who may have been in a coma for the past few days, the Titans’ season is over. Sunday’s much-hyped playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens did not have a happy ending for the Eddie George worshippers of the world. The 24-10 loss has meant particularly unpleasant things for Titans kicker Al del Greco, whose less than perfect performance has prompted unmitigated public criticism, particularly on radio airwaves.

Spearing the competition

Now we know how big Faith Hill really is. The glitzy country music powerhouse toppled teen glamour girl Britney Spears during this week’s annual American Music Awards, edging her out for the award honoring the favorite pop/rock female. Hill took home three honors altogether, the others being favorite female country singer and favorite country album. Hubby Tim McGraw didn’t do so badly himself, winning favorite male country artist.

Health care handoff

The country’s largest for-profit hospital company, Nashville-based HCA, is on the rebound from a now-settled federal investigation into Medicare fraud. Now, it also has a new chief. Jack Bovender, the company’s former chief operating officer, now will lead the company as CEO, taking the reins from company co-founder Thomas Frist Jr.
