Officials at the Turnbull-White Bluff Utility District are suing the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) for repeated water pollution problems caused by construction of state Route 840. Already, TDOT has been fined $350,000 for runoff violations that have muddied and sullied the stream system the utility uses as its water source. It is now asking for up to $5 million in damages because the 840 construction has created a level of sediment in the stream system that is as much as 20 times higher than normal, causing the utility to use more chemicals and other resources.
Fabricator on Leno
Earlier this week, a reporter for WTVF-Channel 5 called the Scene to follow up on last week’s “story” about new nipple-outline mannequins being deployed in local malls. And not very long ago, the editor of the syndicated News of the Weird column had to print a correction after lifting “news” from the Scene’s weekly Fabricator column. Now the Fabricator has made the big time. During one of his periodic monologues about goofy headlines earlier this week, Tonight Show host Jay Leno trotted out an Aug. 31 Fabricator column headlined, “Brentwood bans passing gas.” Leno, of course, didn’t note that the headline came under a Fabricator header.
Church and state
The Tennessean reports that local churches are expressing an avid interest in disseminating information from the national Christian Coalition, asking for thousands of voter guides the right-wing group has produced for the upcoming presidential election that address issues such as abortion and personal integrity.
