Original Fairfield Four baritone James Hill died in Nashville last week at age 83. Hill’s group was one of the best-known a capella quartets of the 1940s. In the days since, Hill, an Alabama native, recorded with newer artists such as Steve Earle, Elvis Costello, and John Fogerty. He also appeared in Robert Altman’s classic movie, Nashville.

The parents of Janet March are getting conflicting opinions from judges involved in deciding whether they will get custody of their missing daughter’s children. Davidson County Juvenile Court Judge Betty Adams Green has given the grandparents temporary custody of the children, but a judge in Illinois, where Perry March lived before he fled to Mexico, has enjoined the grandparents from seeking custody outside his court.
