This global audience-participation phenomenon always attracts fans of the incredibly tuneful (and probably immortal) Rodgers/Hammerstein movie musical. The early announcement of this Nashville Opera-sponsored event evoked so loud a local response that a second viewing was added to the schedule. The screening of the classic film in glorious Technicolor (complete with subtitles for the lyrics) is preceded by a vocal warm-up led by Nashville Opera singers, who guide the audience through their complimentary “magic moments pack” (which contains props for use at strategic points throughout the film). And don’t confine your geekiness to the music: Participants are encouraged to “dress the part,” from Maria and the Captain through Mother Superior and those von Trapp kids. There will even be prizes distributed.
