Frances Hodgson Burnett’s 100-year-old children’s lit classic tells the tale of hapless Mary Lennox, a 10-year-old girl who, upon the death of her parents, is sent away to live with her uncle, and eventually finds friendship and learns the value of perseverance. Street Theatre Company artistic director Cathy Street is the author of this original musical adaptation of the timeless story, which is brought to life on the STC stage by participants in their ClassAct Dramatics summer youth program. The ensemble features more than 30 area kids, with some roles triple-cast due to talent overload. (A happy problem to have!) Direction is by youth programming coordinator Elaina McKnight Shaver. Erica Haines is the musical director.
