The Rules of Comedy

When: Aug. 27-29 2010
Price: $5
Lamplighter’s Theatre winds up its summer program of lighter offerings with this show that aims to define, test and prove the rules of comedy by applying them to one of the most tragic pieces of literature in the English language — Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Peter Bloedel’s long one-act requires only an empty stage and an energetic cast willing to get physical and go for the funny, even while showcasing their abilities to also handle tragic drama. Somewhere in the middle, rubber chickens, slow-mo sword fighting and cream pies meet all that is rotten in Denmark. Daryn Jackson directs an ensemble that includes narrators Wilhelm Peters and Scott Hutcheson, with Shannon Spencer, Adam Young, Sarah Taylor, Inett Branch III, Alan Smith and Amanda Ethridge rounding out the company.
