The Rocky Horror Show

When: Mondays-Saturdays. Continues through Oct. 31 2011
Price: $27, $25 senior and students, $21 children
Here’s one for the nostalgia bin: Nine years ago, Circle Players mounted a production of The Rocky Horror Show at TPAC, where director Jeffrey Ellis — now the tireless reporter/reviewer for the Nashville wing of — cleverly rearranged the seating in the Johnson Theater. His suitably outrageous cast includied familiar local names such as Kaine Riggan, Jack E. Chambers and Kay Ayers. In the where-are-they-now category, Philip Piarrot was the alien transvestite Frank-N-Furter — and couldn’t keep his bustier up. That production was a hit-and-miss affair, though memorable nonetheless, and Boiler Room Theatre’s new mounting of the campy Richard O’Brien musical would do well to at least match Ellis & Co.’s impassioned approach to the zaniness. Now trending toward work on the opposite side of the footlights is director Megan Murphy Chambers (yes, that Chambers), who has cast some reliable talent to pull off the R-rated shenanigans, with Geoff Davin as Dr. Frank N. Furter, plus Melodie Madden Adams, Mike Baum, Britt Byrd and Patrick Kramer. Fanning the famous flames of audience interaction are solid supporting players like Alan Lee, Corrie Miller, Evelyn Brush and Jeremy Maxwell. The musical direction is by Jamey Green, with choreography by Pam Atha and costumes by Billy Ditty. Performances rock and roll up to (and include) Halloween night.
