It’s tough to figure out how to interpret the title of veteran pop-punkers The Queers' newest release Back to the Basement. To take it literally would imply that — at some point in their near-30-year career — these guys ever left. They spent the ’90s perfecting a sophomoric middle ground between The Ramones and early Beach Boys and never looked back (or forward, for that matter). They've been singing juvenile hymns and touring the world in a van before and ever since, and if new song titles such as “Tit Fuck,” “Psychedelic Mindfuck” and “I Knew G.G. When He Was a Wimp” are any indication, frontman and sole original member Joe King doesn't exactly equate age with maturity. If their regular stops at all-ages dive The Muse have deterred you from catching them in previous years, rest easy in knowing that you'll party like a teenage boy without any actual teens around to make you feel old.
