The Nashville Symphony feat. Misha Dichter, Pianist
When: Fri., June 4, 7:30 p.m. and Sat., June 5, 7:30 p.m. 2010
No need to take a rain check for the Nashville Symphony's summer series. They’ve relocated to Lipscomb University's Alumni Auditorium while the Schermerhorn Center undergoes flood repairs. Long-established piano virtuoso Misha Dichter, well-versed in both the Russian Romantic and German Classical pianistic traditions, is the guest soloist for Rachmaninoff's
Rhaphsody on a Theme of Paganini. Also on the program are Schubert's lyrical and ambitious
Symphony No. 8 (“Unfinished”) and two recent works by Pulitzer-winning composer Joseph Schwantner. The NSO is planning a Naxos release devoted to Schwantner's probing, atmospheric and accessible work — local concertgoers will remember the Vanderbilt Orchestra's wonderful February performances of his music. This weekend's program features his 2006
Morning's Embrace and his 2008
Chasing Light ..., the latter a part of the Made in America Commission Series that also yielded music for the NSO's Grammy-winning recording of compositions by Joan Tower.
