I Want Your Skull...and Your Original Lead Singer
While Halloween has passed, it's never too late to hear a set of Misfits covers. Especially if they're being played by the band's bassist Jerry Only and Black Flag's Robo (drums) and Dez Cadena (guitar). While this current ensemble of old punks is touring under the Misfits moniker, many punk purists would argue that a sans-Glenn Danzig line-up is unacceptable, no matter how many former members of Black Flag are thrown into the mix. Nevertheless, for 13 years, through various incarnations—with Only being the "only" consistent member—this is how it's been for horror-punk's founding institution. Luckily for the audience, the Misfits’ original repertoire—chock full of songs that are as catchy as they are macabre—is so damn good, even the most perfunctory cash-in performance of them would still be a gas to sing along to.
