William Gibson's dramatization of Helen Keller's historical, stirring, often gut-wrenching birth into the world of human communication is a familiar and beloved work, with its particular focus on the blind and mute youngster's stormy emotional relationship with teacher Annie Sullivan. While the play gets its share of community-theater mountings, Boiler Room Theatre's production should generate some new interest, with the company making one of its occasional departures from musical fare. BRT stage regular Lisa Gillespie makes her directorial debut, and newcomers also take on leading roles: Lori Bargas as Annie and Morgan Whiting as Helen. Among the skilled vets rounding out the cast are Corrie Miller, Phil Perry, Linda Speir, Adele Akin and John Silvestro.
Tuesdays, Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: March 27. Continues through April 19, 2009
