On Jan. 15, Bill Haslam will be sworn in as Tennessee's next governor, thus bringing to a close — for now — Gov. Phil Bredesen's two decades as a public servant at both the state and city level. Those decades mark a tumultuous time in recent local history, from the advances Nashville made under Bredesen's mayoral administration to the crises that confronted Tennessee under his governorship. In this week's Scene, longtime observers of city and state politics offer their assessments of Bredesen's legacy, failures as well as successes, capped by Bredesen's own take in an interview with Stephen George.
