The Jompson Brothers at The Basement

This One Goes to 11
If you’ve ever wondered what Chris Stapleton would sound like fronting a meaty, plugged-in rock ’n’ roll band—as opposed to a string band with bluegrass and Southern rock vying for its heart—you have your answer in The Jompson Brothers: He sounds like he’s in his element. As much heat and grit as Stapleton can muster with his vocal attack, guitarist Greg McKee, drummer Bard McNamee and bassist J.T. Cure match him decibel for decibel, muscle for muscle. The Jompsons have been playing regionally for the past few years—not venturing much beyond Tennessee and Georgia—and they’re recording their debut with Frank Rogers (who may have handled Brad Paisley’s guitar playing, but rarely anything as aggressive as this). The trio of tracks on the band’s MySpace profile suggests the album will have no shortage of fierce riffs and classic rock swagger.
