Think of this as the automotive Lollapalooza. Music City pops its clutch and tells the world to EAT! MY! DUST! at this candy-colored tangerine-flake streamline behemoth — a gearhead orgy of more than 2,000 super-cool hot rods, customs, classics, trucks and muscle cars, none of which postdate the Nixon administration. Friday through Sunday, the world’s largest hot-rodding association sets up its mega car show at LP Field for three days of white-knuckled autocross driving competitions, swap meets, parties, vendor and manufacturer exhibits and other events. The weekend-long celebration culminates in All American Sunday, open to late-model makes — and for the kids (and plenty of adults we know), there’ll be a free Revell model-car building area within the children’s entertainment section. General admission is $18 ages 13 and up, $6 for ages 7-12, with children 6 and under free; for a full schedule of events, see good-guys.com.
