Sure, the Brothers are from Texas. But by frontier they dont mean wild West. Chances are, none of these guys has ever played a note of Western swing, Tex-Mex or honky-tonk in his life. Outer space is their frontieras in, early-70s, David Bowie Space Oddity/Ziggy Stardust outer space. The Frontier Brothers named last years full-length debut Space Punk Starlet, and frontman Marshall Galacticwho sports a streak of metallic face paint across his eyes onstagelikes to refer to it as a rock opera. Bowie references dont get much clearer than that. But, really, the bands goofier than glam. They specialize in tuneful, punkish fare, featuring Galactics frenetic yowl and Brett Moses Ben Foldsian piano pumping front and center. Also, they aim New Wave love songs at a robot called T.E.S.S. and claim otherworldly originsspecifically, the planet Betelgeuse, which is nowhere near Texas but sounds like a fun place to visit.
