The Fisherman and His Wife & Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse at NCT

Nashville Children's Theatre is spreading the joy around in June for Music City families, offering two plays on weekends with a rotating schedule of shows designed so audiences can catch both in one day. The ever-popular Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse (produced earlier in the season) returns in a re-mount, with Misty Lewis reprising the lead role of the lovable, feisty mouse-girl. The brand-new production, The Fisherman and His Wife, offers the classic Brothers Grimm tale as re-written by Larry and Vivian Snipes. The fable, which has been re-told often--probably most famously on stage in Paul Sills' Story Theatre--finds a simple fisherman reeling in a talking flounder who grants wishes. When his wife considers the fanciful possibilities of such a situation, she starts thinking big. Then way too big. Composer Paul Carrol Binkley's score keeps pace with the hilarity, which incorporates audience participation and, in a change of pace, will be presented in-the-round, thus assuring youngsters an up-close-and-personal experience. Three of Nashville's finest star: Henry Haggard, Evelyn Blythe and Bobby Wyckoff. Scot Copeland directs. It's a Fri.-Sat. schedule with various times. Visit nashvillechildrenstheatre.org for details.
Every other Saturday, 10 a.m. & 4 p.m.; Every other Saturday, 1 & 4 p.m. Starts: June 6. Continues through June 27, 2009
