Recommended for ages 9 and up, Nashville Childrens Theatres first offering of the new year gathers strong players to enact Frances Goodrich and Albert Hacketts harrowing stage adaptation of Anne Franks world-famous diary, maintained while she and her German-Jewish family were in hiding in Amsterdam to avoid persecution by the Nazis. Tia Shearer, a versatile and sensitive actress seen on Nashville stages in the not-too-distant past and also in the locally produced feature film Make-Out With Violence (2008), handles the challenging lead role, and shes well supported by reliable thespians like Evelyn Blythe, Jamie Farmer, Henry Haggard, Peter Vann, Sam Whited and Bobby Wyckoff. Scot Copeland directs. The Jan. 23 performance is followed by a special After-words event, featuring a discussion of the play and its background.
